If you can play it, bring it!

Not your typical Christmas Carol!  Bluegrass music, 1930’s depression era, St. Louis.  St. Louis can get mighty cold in December, especially when there’s not enough food to go around. It was 1933, and times were hard. People were out of work, lost their homes, their families, and many lost hope. A Shakespearean actor and his manager run out of gas, and the townsfolk agree to supply them with some if they tell them the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim. Hope is born as the town jumps in as Dickensian characters amid bluegrass music and the redemptive spirit inspired by this timeless tale. This depression-era adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic truly brings this story to life.

Character Notes from Director Beth Gilles-Whitehead:  This is a wonderful ensemble cast, with most people on stage most of the time, playing different roles.  Music is such an important part of this production.  The narrator and others play music throughout, and so looking for talented musicians who may or may not be comfortable speaking in roles – both needed.  As you can see, the size of the cast will depend on the number of individuals interested in the production and the number of roles that people play – some can play several.

Audition Information/Instructions

  • HOW WE WORK: Most PPF auditions have actors up and down to read multiple times in multiple combinations and scenes. Most actors find this fun. As space allows, you will be able to watch all the auditions. You may be asked to go into the hallway with audition partners and work a bit on a scene. We will do our best to get you up multiple times reading for parts you are interested in. You will also be asked to read for other parts you may not be auditioning for. The Providence Players strives to make our productions open to interested and engaged actors & actresses, regardless of their level of experience. We try and make our auditions as relaxing and fun as possible.
  • AUDITION PROCESS: Auditions will consist of readings from the script – no monologues required.  Come prepared to sing a Christmas song or ballad, a cappella.  Please bring a non-electrical instrument to play, if you are interested in a musician or actor role playing an instrument.
  • AUDITION SIDES: Sides for the audition process will be supplied at auditions.
  • AUDITION FORM: Resumes and headshots will be accepted but are not required. Please ALSO COMPLETE the PPF A Christmas Carol Audition Form which is part of the audition download and bring it with you to the audition.
  • MEMBERSHIP: The Providence Players of Fairfax is a membership organization. Membership is not required to audition. If cast, actors in addition to production team members will be asked to become members of the Providence Players ($10) for the season (if they are not already).
